Board Meeting Minutes
February 10The regular meeting of the Village of Divernon Board of Trustees was held on Wednesday February 10, 2010, at the Divernon Village Hall. Acting Mayor Randy Rhodes called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. After all in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the Clerk called roll call: Acting Mayor Randy Rhodes “Here”, Melissa Layton “Here”, Kelly Horn “Here”, Tom Burke “Here”, Randy Rieke “Here”, Michelle Bennett “Here”, and Joe Bukantos “Here”. Also present Police Chief Eric Kirbach and Superintendent Larry Rhodes. Not present Treasurer Lucille Hundley.
The minutes for the January 27th regular meeting were presented. After any additions or corrections were made a motion to approve was made by M. Bennett. Second by M. Layton. Motion passed 6-0.
The bills were presented for approval. After additions and corrections were made, motion to approve bills by R. Rieke. Second by K. Horn. Motion passed 6-0.
Acting Mayor Rhodes recognized Sharmin Doering, Executive Director for Sangamon County Community Resources. S. Doering presented information available to the public for assistance. These programs are designed to assist low income families to improve the quality of life. There are a number of programs available to the public. For further information contact the Sangamon County Department of Community Resources.
Supervisor (L. Rhodes):
Supervisor Rhodes reported on water main breaks. The Department has been placing rock in the alleys.
Police:
Nothing to report.
Treasurer (L. Hundley):
Monthly Treasurer’s report was presented.
Committee Reports
Public Works, Streets, Alleys, and Utilities (J. Bukantos):
Nothing to report.
Acting Mayor R. Rhodes presented a future sidewalk program to present to the Attorney General office in compliance with the ADA suit. The Board will review this information for further discussion.
K. Horn discussed the grants available for the Illinois Safe Routes to School programs. No money is available at this time. K. Horn discussed what information is needed to apply for grants. The program is available for grades K-8. A committee will be brought together to determine a plan to be submitted.
Finance (R. Rieke):
R. Rieke followed up on the grant application for the Depot. The application needs to be filed by April 29th. R. Rieke will be in touch with Don Becker regarding possible historic registration of the Depot.
Personnel/Human Resources (K. Horn):
Nothing to report.
Health & Safety (M. Bennett):
Nothing to report.
Discussion was held regarding the Animal Control Officer.
Building, Grounds and Lights(T. Burke):
Nothing to report.
Community Development (M. Layton):
M. Layton reported on the meeting attended by M. Layton and Acting Mayor Rhodes with the Sangamon County Economic Planning Committee. The committee discussed what different communities were working on. There was information available on help with committee development. M. Layton stated the representative from the Springfield Chamber of Commerce will be at the next Board meeting. Discussion was held regarding forming a Chamber for area businesses. A public meeting will be set for a later date.
M. Layton stated the American Legion Auxiliary would like to help beautify the Memorial at the Village Square. The planting will be done by Memorial Day.
Old Business
Clerk Oldridge presented the liquor license for George Rogers for Myra’s Restaurant. The application has been cleared by the Chief and will wait on payment from the Rogers to pass.
New Business
Mason’s have requested to serve fish on Friday’s at the Village Square thru lentil season. Motion to approve the Mason’s to serve fish from a trailer on Friday’s thru Lentil season at the Village Square by K. Horn. Second by T. Burke. Motion passed 6-0.
